Vision - Emotions matter

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence reflects the ways a person interacts with and applies his or her knowledge to daily life. Broadly speaking, emotional intelligence addresses the emotional, personal, social, and survival dimensions of intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is concerned with understanding oneself and others, relating to people, and adapting to and coping with the immediate surroundings to be more successful in dealing with environmental demands.

EQ is a measure for Emotional Intelligence. EQ is not about being emotional, soft or nice. EQ includes skills like inner strength, interpersonal skills, adaptability, stress management and well being. EQ is a broad definition which includes the key soft skills which have been proven to be important to success.

It’s not how intelligent we are, but how we are intelligent.

IQ and EQ

IQ is essential for learning and mental development and EQ is much more important for happiness and success. We have all known people who did not complete college, but who have become very successful in business. We call them street smart. We also know people who, on the whole, are positive, communicative, pleasant and supportive - these people enjoy a high level of EQ.
An organization in which managers are valued for their soft skills and EQ as well as their technical expertise is more likely to succeed. Customer relationships, creativity, innovation, motivation, retention, talent management, etc are all dependant to large degrees on soft skills. The companies that successfully harness these skills and turn them into sources of competitive advantage will out perform those who ignore them. Unlike IQ, which remains more or less fixed in adult life, there is this remarkable thing:

your EQ can always, at any age, be improved.
